About

The District's own sexual health clinic tests and treats STIs, including for people with symptoms, offers emergency PEP and PrEP, and says it sees patients regardless of insurance status, but by appointment only.

This clinic doesn’t advertise itself as LGBTQ+ friendly. Most clinics don’t, so this isn’t a sign that it’s unwelcoming. If you’ve been, tell us how you were treated.

United States: good to know

  • PEP in this country. DC Health's own clinic, the DC Health and Wellness Center (77 P Street NE), lists emergency PEP among its services. It does not take walk-ins, so call 202-741-7692 for a same-day appointment. DC Health also runs the 24/7 DC PEP Hotline. It does not publish a price for people without US insurance.

  • PEP in this country. Whitman-Walker Health says PEP must be started within 72 hours and that you cannot walk in for it: call its PEP line (202-797-4439) on weekdays during business hours, and after hours go to any hospital emergency room and ask for PEP.
  • What visitors pay. US care is rarely free for visitors. DC Health says its DC Health and Wellness Center sees patients regardless of insurance status, but it does not publish fees and asks you to bring photo ID to every appointment.
