United States: good to know

  • PEP in this country. Public Health – Seattle & King County says PEP must start within 72 hours. During business hours call 206-744-5100 and say why you are calling, or go to Madison Clinic at Harborview Medical Center (325 9th Ave); after hours go to the Harborview Emergency Department at the same address. The county says Harborview will make sure you can get PEP regardless of your ability to pay, and that a course otherwise costs from about $600 to over $1,000.
  • What visitors pay. US care is rarely free for visitors. King County describes its Sexual Health Clinic at Harborview as offering free or low-cost HIV and STI testing, treatment and prevention, and the county service directory says it charges on a sliding-fee basis; no amounts are published.
