United Kingdom: good to know

  • What visitors pay. In England, NHS services for diagnosing and treating sexually transmitted infections, and A&E (emergency) care, are free to all overseas visitors. Newcastle Sexual Health describes its services as free and confidential for anyone aged 13 and over.
  • PEP in this country. Newcastle Sexual Health says PEP works best when started within 72 hours and asks you to contact its team as soon as you can (0191 273 6222); its PEP page also lists the Infection and Tropical Medicine clinic at the Royal Victoria Infirmary (0191 282 0469). It names no A&E; the NHS says PEP is available from sexual health clinics and A&E.
