About
Belfast's public sexual health clinic is where people with symptoms are sent, and the Public Health Agency names GUM clinics as a place to get PEP; phone before you go to check services.
This clinic doesn’t advertise itself as LGBTQ+ friendly. Most clinics don’t, so this isn’t a sign that it’s unwelcoming. If you’ve been, tell us how you were treated.

United Kingdom: good to know
- What visitors pay. Northern Ireland has its own rules for visitors. The government's nidirect site says visitors do not pay for treatment in an emergency department, but that other treatment, including clinic and outpatient appointments, may be charged unless an exemption applies. It does not mention sexual health clinics.Published by nidirect (Northern Ireland government)· 19 Sep 2026
- What visitors pay. The Public Health Agency says that at sexual health (GUM) clinics in Northern Ireland the consultation, any tests and any treatment are free, and that you do not need a referral. It does not say whether this applies to visitors.
- PEP in this country. The Public Health Agency says PEP is available from hospital emergency departments and sexual health (GUM) clinics, not from GPs, and must be started as soon as possible and within 72 hours. The Rainbow Project adds that emergency departments are open around the clock and take walk-ins, while GUM clinics have limited hours.
