About

Uganda's oldest voluntary HIV counselling and testing organisation, whose Kampala centre lists HIV testing, antiretroviral therapy and screening and management of sexually transmitted infections under one roof.

This clinic doesn’t advertise itself as LGBTQ+ friendly. Most clinics don’t, so this isn’t a sign that it’s unwelcoming. If you’ve been, tell us how you were treated.

Uganda: good to know

  • Legal & safety. Same-sex sexual activity is criminalised in Uganda. The Human Dignity Trust records that the Penal Code 1950 carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment, and that the Anti-Homosexuality Act 2023, in force since May 2023, widened the offences, with life imprisonment under section 2 and the death penalty for what it calls aggravated homosexuality under section 3.
  • What visitors pay. The wellness centre listed here describes free antiretroviral therapy, free HIV services and free condoms, but neither Kampala service says what a visitor pays for a test. Ask on the phone before you go.
