About

The emergency department HUG names as the only place in the Geneva emergency network, with its gynaecology-obstetrics emergencies, that prescribes PEP in the evening from 18:00, at night, at weekends and on public holidays; open around the clock.

This clinic doesn’t advertise itself as LGBTQ+ friendly. Most clinics don’t, so this isn’t a sign that it’s unwelcoming. If you’ve been, tell us how you were treated.

Switzerland: good to know

  • PEP in this country. The Geneva University Hospitals (HUG) say PEP should start within 48 hours. On weekdays call the HUG HIV consultation's on-call doctor on +41 79 553 46 56; in the evening from 18:00, at night, at weekends and on public holidays the HUG adult emergency department (Rue Gabrielle-Perret-Gentil 2, open around the clock) and its gynaecology-obstetrics emergencies are the only emergency services in the Geneva network that prescribe PEP. Checkpoint Genève also gives PEP during its consultation hours and sends you to the nearest hospital when it is closed.
  • What visitors pay. Swiss basic insurance can cover consultations and tests, but a visitor pays on the spot. Checkpoint Genève publishes self-pay prices that include a basic consultation: a rapid HIV test CHF 60, chlamydia and gonorrhoea CHF 80, HIV plus syphilis, gonorrhoea and chlamydia CHF 105 (lower rates under 26), paid in cash or by card. At the HUG infectious diseases service an anonymous HIV test costs CHF 10 and other STI tests CHF 40 to 100.
