Switzerland: good to know

  • PEP in this country. Inselspital's infectious diseases clinic says to call +41 31 632 25 25 within 48 hours of a sexual risk situation, Monday to Friday 08:00 to 17:00; outside those hours the hospital's emergency centre on +41 31 632 24 02 (Rosenbühlgasse 27). Aids Hilfe Bern gives the same route and the same 48-hour limit.
  • What visitors pay. Swiss mandatory insurance covers PEP and PrEP, but a visitor pays. Checkpoint Bern's self-pay prices, which cannot be claimed from an insurer, are CHF 60 for an HIV test, CHF 150 for an STI check (HIV, syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhoea) and CHF 165 for a PrEP start; asylum seekers test free. Inselspital's anonymous test site charges a CHF 40 to 60 base fee plus CHF 20 for a rapid HIV test or CHF 90 for a full STI check.
