Vía Libre, a Lima sexual health NGO, says PEP must be started within 72 hours of the exposure and can be found at every Ministry of Health (Minsa) or EsSalud hospital that provides antiretroviral treatment (TARGA). In Arequipa the Hospital Goyeneche runs that treatment programme, so it is the first place to ask; no source gives a price for a visitor.
  • What visitors pay. The regional government says the HIV and STI testing service at the Hospital Goyeneche is open to everyone: 'No es necesario tener SIS ni estar asegurado en Essalud' — you do not need Peru's public insurance or EsSalud cover — and the care is 'para todos, libre y gratuita'.
