About

Oslo University Hospital's sexual health clinic has a drop-in five days a week, sees people with symptoms, and tests and treats the main STIs free of charge.

This clinic doesn’t advertise itself as LGBTQ+ friendly. Most clinics don’t, so this isn’t a sign that it’s unwelcoming. If you’ve been, tell us how you were treated.

Norway: good to know

  • PEP in this country. HivNorge says every hospital emergency department (akuttmottak) and big-city emergency clinic (legevakt) in Norway should be able to start PEP without first consulting an infectious disease specialist. It gives a window of up to 48 hours after exposure, shorter than the 72 hours used in most countries, so go at once.
  • What visitors pay. Helsenorge, the national health portal, says testing, treatment and medicines are free of charge when there is a possibility that you have an STI, without saying whether that includes tourists. It also says visitors from outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland are not reimbursed by the Norwegian insurance scheme, that anyone staying in Norway is entitled to urgent medical care, and that travel insurance is recommended.
