This clinic doesn’t advertise itself as LGBTQ+ friendly. Most clinics don’t, so this isn’t a sign that it’s unwelcoming. If you’ve been, tell us how you were treated.

Norway: good to know

  • PEP in this country. HivNorge says every hospital emergency department (akuttmottak) and big-city emergency clinic (legevakt) in Norway should be able to start PEP without first consulting an infectious disease specialist. It gives a window of up to 48 hours after exposure, shorter than the 72 hours used in most countries, so go at once. In Bergen that means Bergen legevakt or the emergency department at Haukeland.
  • What visitors pay. Helsenorge, the national health portal, says testing, treatment and medicines are free of charge when there is a possibility that you have an STI, without saying whether that includes tourists. It also says visitors from outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland are not reimbursed by the Norwegian insurance scheme, that anyone staying in Norway is entitled to urgent medical care, and that travel insurance is recommended. Haukeland's STI clinic says a consultation is normally free when you suspect an infection, and that everyone must show valid ID.
