About
Christchurch's public specialist sexual health clinic, which Health New Zealand describes as free and confidential, diagnoses and manages STIs and offers HIV testing and care — by appointment, and its page does not say whether visitors who are not eligible for public healthcare can use it.
This clinic doesn’t advertise itself as LGBTQ+ friendly. Most clinics don’t, so this isn’t a sign that it’s unwelcoming. If you’ve been, tell us how you were treated.

New Zealand: good to know
- PEP in this country. For PEP in New Zealand, Burnett Foundation Aotearoa says to go to a GP, an after-hours clinic or a hospital emergency department as soon as possible, within 72 hours; some pharmacies stock it, so call ahead. It is free only for people eligible for public healthcare who meet the funding criteria; others can ask the doctor for a prescription and pay for the pills themselves at a pharmacy, about NZ$15 plus the pharmacy mark-up.Community-endorsed Burnett Foundation Aotearoa· 22 Sep 2026
- What visitors pay. Sexual Wellbeing Aotearoa says anyone can come to its clinics but people who are not New Zealand residents pay non-resident fees: NZ$165 for an STI screen without symptoms and NZ$200 with symptoms, plus a laboratory fee. Health New Zealand describes the public Christchurch sexual health clinic as free and confidential without saying whether that covers visitors, and Burnett Foundation Aotearoa's Te Toka centre offers free rapid testing to LGBTQIA+ people regardless of visa status. From Sexual Wellbeing Aotearoa’s website· 22 Sep 2026
