Mauritius: good to know

  • What visitors pay. Mauritius's Ministry of Health and Wellness says HIV prevention, testing, treatment, care and support are available free of charge and accessible to all individuals, through eight service points in hospitals and three one-stop shops. It does not name them or say what a visitor is asked for, so phone the 8999 line to be pointed at the nearest one.
  • PEP in this country. The ministry lists post-exposure prophylaxis and pre-exposure prophylaxis among the interventions in its national HIV response, but publishes no route to either. If you need PEP, go to a public hospital and say it is an HIV exposure within the last 72 hours.

Emergency number: 114
