Italy: good to know

  • PEP in this country. Italy's Ministry of Health and national health institute say PEP must start within 48 hours of the exposure, lasts four weeks and is prescribed by a specialist after a risk assessment. The HIV organisation LILA advises going to a specialist HIV centre or straight to a hospital emergency department (Pronto Soccorso). In Naples the Cotugno hospital is the infectious diseases hospital; if in doubt, go to the nearest Pronto Soccorso.

Emergency number: 112
