Florence's public STI centre takes walk-ins on weekday mornings with no doctor's referral, so you just arrive early and take a number.

This clinic doesn’t advertise itself as LGBTQ+ friendly. Most clinics don’t, so this isn’t a sign that it’s unwelcoming. If you’ve been, tell us how you were treated.

Italy: good to know

  • PEP in this country. Italy's Ministry of Health and national health institute say PEP must start within 48 hours of the exposure, lasts four weeks and is prescribed by a specialist after a risk assessment. The HIV organisation LILA advises going to a specialist HIV centre or straight to a hospital emergency department (Pronto Soccorso). In Florence that means the nearest hospital Pronto Soccorso.
