Germany: good to know

  • What visitors pay. The City of Nuremberg's health office runs an open session where anyone can come without an appointment for anonymous counselling and free HIV and STI tests; the optional rapid HIV test costs 25 euros, and anonymous results are given by phone, not in writing. Checkpoint Nürnberg, run by the local Aidshilfe, charges 20 euros per test or 60 for a four-test bundle.
  • PEP in this country. AIDS-Hilfe Nürnberg-Erlangen-Fürth says PEP must start as soon as possible, ideally within 2 hours, otherwise within 24 and at the latest 48 hours, and that only specialised hospitals and practices know it, pointing to Deutsche Aidshilfe's address directory. That directory lists the emergency department of Klinikum Nürnberg, Campus Nord (Professor-Ernst-Nathan-Straße 1) as the PEP site in the city. Neither source says what a visitor without German insurance pays.
