Germany: good to know

  • What visitors pay. The City of Leipzig's health office offers counselling and an HIV test anonymously and free of charge, and STI diagnostics when there is a reason for them; a certified named HIV test for visas costs a fee. Aidshilfe Leipzig charges 20 euros for an HIV rapid test, 15 for syphilis or hepatitis C and 40 for chlamydia and gonorrhoea screening.
  • PEP in this country. Aidshilfe Leipzig says the first PEP dose should be taken within 2 hours, otherwise within 24 and at the latest 48 hours, and names Klinikum St. Georg (2nd department of internal medicine, Delitzscher Straße 141) as the place to go. Deutsche Aidshilfe's HIV-Kompass lists both St. Georg (HIV clinic or emergency department) and the emergency department of Universitätsklinikum Leipzig, Paul-List-Straße 27, as PEP sites. Neither says what a visitor without German insurance pays.
