Denmark: good to know

  • PEP in this country. AIDS-Fondet says that to get PEP in the Copenhagen region you phone a hospital's main number and ask for the on-call infectious disease doctor, who decides whether PEP is offered: Hvidovre Hospital +45 3862 3862, Rigshospitalet +45 3545 3545 or Herlev Hospital +45 3868 3868. Start as soon as possible, ideally within 24 hours and no later than 72 hours.
  • What visitors pay. Denmark's citizen portal says temporary visitors get free treatment that cannot wait until they are home if they hold a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), live in another Nordic country or are under 18. Private providers and planned treatment are not covered. Visitors from elsewhere should expect that they may be charged for public hospital care and should carry travel insurance.

Emergency number: 112
