Sexual health clinics in Costa Rica
We list one private laboratory in San José that sells an HIV test at a published price; it tests only and does not treat. The only source on the public system says anyone is treated in an emergency and that a person without insurance is billed afterwards. No source mentions tourists. For PEP, go to a hospital emergency department.

UNHCR's Costa Rica help site says anyone in an emergency always has the right to be treated in the public system (the Caja, CCSS), and that a person without insurance is billed for the services after being treated. It also says people living with HIV have the right to uninterrupted antiretroviral treatment and can get state-paid insurance if they have no other cover. The page is written for refugees and asylum seekers and does not mention tourists, HIV testing or PEP. In San José, the private laboratory we list sells an HIV test online for 19,000 colones.
