About

The city's free HIV testing and counselling centre in the old centre, a short walk from Sé metro, which the health department lists as offering HIV tests, PEP and PrEP on weekdays from 7:00 to 19:00.

This clinic doesn’t advertise itself as LGBTQ+ friendly. Most clinics don’t, so this isn’t a sign that it’s unwelcoming. If you’ve been, tell us how you were treated.

Brazil: good to know

  • What visitors pay. Brazil's Ministry of Health says a foreign tourist with a health problem can also seek care in the urgent-care network of the public health system (SUS), including SAMU ambulances on 192 and 24-hour UPA units, and that these services are free. The page does not list any documents a tourist must show.
  • PEP in this country. The Ministry of Health says PEP is offered free of charge by the SUS, must start within 72 hours of the exposure and is taken for 28 days. São Paulo's city health department lists more than 100 units that give PEP, including the municipal testing centres (CTA) and specialised services (SAE) on weekdays 7:00–19:00, the Estação Prevenção inside República metro station (Tuesday to Saturday 17:00–23:00), and emergency units such as UPA Vergueiro and AMA Sé in the centre.
