Brazil: good to know
- PEP in this country. Manaus city health department (Semsa) publishes the list of family health units (USF) that hold PEP, by zone, with their addresses and hours — most open on weekdays from about 7:00 to 17:00 or 18:00, one of them (USF Carmen Nicolau, Lago Azul) every day. It says PEP is an emergency measure for a situation of risk of HIV infection and must be started as soon as possible, preferably within the first two hours and at most within 72 hours. No unit on that list is open 24 hours, so at night ask at a UPA or emergency unit.
- What visitors pay. Brazil's Ministry of Health says a foreign tourist with a health problem can also seek care in the urgent-care network of the public health system (SUS), including SAMU ambulances on 192 and 24-hour UPA units, and that these services are free. The page does not list any documents a tourist must show.Published by Ministério da Saúde (Brazil)· 22 Sep 2026
