Brazil: good to know

  • What visitors pay. Brazil's Ministry of Health says a foreign tourist with a health problem can also seek care in the urgent-care network of the public health system (SUS), including SAMU ambulances on 192 and 24-hour UPA units, and that these services are free. The page does not list any documents a tourist must show.
  • PEP in this country. The Ministry of Health says PEP is offered free of charge by the SUS, must start within 72 hours of the exposure and is taken for 28 days. Curitiba's health department publishes a PEP service list (updated 10 September 2025): for consensual sexual exposure, the COA in the centre (Rua do Rosário, 144, 6th floor) on weekdays 7:00–16:00, the Salgado Filho (weekdays 8:00–16:00) and Santa Felicidade (weekdays 8:00–18:00) specialty centres, and UPA Cajuru and UPA Boqueirão 24 hours every day. Hospital de Clínicas, Hospital Evangélico Mackenzie and Hospital do Trabalhador are listed only for sexual violence.
