Where To Test

Sexual health clinics in Tanzania

The one Tanzanian listing is a large private hospital in central Dar es Salaam with a 24-hour emergency department, an infectious disease clinic and its own laboratory. It publishes no HIV or STI prices, so phone and ask before you are seen. Same-sex sexual activity is criminalised on the mainland and in Zanzibar.

Testing

No Tanzanian clinic found publishes HIV or STI testing prices on its own site. The Dar es Salaam hospital listed here books outpatient clinics by phone on weekdays and keeps a 24-hour accident and emergency department that names HIV-related emergencies among the conditions it handles, without saying whether it starts PEP. Government care and treatment clinics exist countrywide but publish nothing a visitor can act on.

Legal & safety

Same-sex sexual activity is criminalised throughout Tanzania. The Human Dignity Trust records that the Penal Code 1945 covers acts described as against the order of nature and gross indecency, between men and between women, with a maximum penalty of life imprisonment; in Zanzibar the Penal Code 1934 carries up to fourteen years for unnatural offences and up to five years for gross indecency or acts of lesbianism.

City pages carry the local detail: which clinic, which hospital, and what it costs there.

PrEP in Tanzania: none of our listed clinics says it supplies PrEP. It can also be ordered for delivery from PrEP Online.
