Sexual health clinics in Spain
Most of what we list in Spain is community checkpoints run by HIV and LGBTQ+ organisations, which say their rapid tests for HIV, syphilis and hepatitis are free, plus public STI clinics in the larger cities. Few say anything about short-term visitors: the checkpoint in Gran Canaria names visitors, Madrid's checkpoint says no health card is needed, and Barcelona's public express service has said it is open with or without one. What a visitor pays at a public clinic or for PEP is not published.

- PEP in this country
Spain's Ministry of Health says that if fewer than 72 hours have passed since a possible HIV exposure you should go to a hospital emergency department (urgencias), ideally within the first 6 hours. The risk is assessed there and a 28-day course of PEP (PPE in Spanish) can be started. In Gran Canaria, the association Checkpoint Canarias gives the same advice: a public hospital or health centre emergency service within 72 hours. In Madrid, the public Sandoval clinic also lists PEP consultations. Ask what PEP costs without a Spanish health card.

In Gran Canaria, the Canary Islands government lists rapid HIV test points: Amigos contra el Sida, Colectivo Gamá and Médicos del Mundo in Las Palmas (by appointment) and Checkpoint Canarias in the south. In Valencia, the city council lists the regional government's CIPS centre, in the grounds of Hospital Doctor Peset, as offering free HIV tests done anonymously, with advice and follow-up or referral if the result is positive.

In the Canary Islands, the association Checkpoint Canarias says PrEP is not sold in pharmacies and that there is no adequate route for visitors to get it, so bring more than you need for your stay. For mainland Spain, ask a clinic before you travel.
