About

The Ministry of Health's national HIV programme runs a counselling and laboratory service at its own headquarters where HIV, syphilis and hepatitis B tests are free, voluntary and confidential, with appointments by WhatsApp, and it is one of the places in Asunción where PrEP is prescribed.

This clinic doesn’t advertise itself as LGBTQ+ friendly. Most clinics don’t, so this isn’t a sign that it’s unwelcoming. If you’ve been, tell us how you were treated.

Paraguay: good to know

  • PEP in this country. Paraguay's Ministry of Health says PEP is an emergency treatment started within 72 hours of a possible exposure (including unprotected sex) and taken for 28 days, that it is free throughout the country, and that it can be requested at district, regional and specialised public hospitals. The national HIV programme (PRONASIDA) distributes emergency packs of the medication to those hospitals. The statement does not say how this applies to short-term visitors, so go to the nearest public hospital's emergency department (urgencias) as soon as you can and say you need profilaxis post exposición.

Emergency number: 911
