Netherlands: good to know
- PEP in this country. In office hours, PEP is arranged through the GGD Amsterdam public health service by phone. At weekends and outside office hours, GGD Amsterdam says to go to the emergency department of OLVG Oost, OLVG West, Amsterdam UMC location AMC or location VUmc, then return to the GGD on the next working day for the repeat prescription and checks.Published by GGD Amsterdam· 18 Sep 2026
- What visitors pay. Dutch health insurance covers PEP (it counts towards the excess). GGD Amsterdam says people with foreign health insurance pay for the whole PEP course themselves at the pharmacy, about €1,000. Free STI tests at the GGD are for defined groups who live in the Amsterdam region; others are pointed to a GP, home tests or private clinics.Published by GGD Amsterdam· 18 Sep 2026

LGBTQ+ friendly means the clinic says so itself. No label only means it hasn’t said, not that it’s unwelcoming.
