Ireland: good to know
- PEP in this country. PEP medicine is free in Ireland and must be started within 72 hours. In Cork the HSE lists a PEP starter pack at the South Infirmary sexual health clinic (weekdays, by appointment) and around the clock at the emergency departments of Cork University Hospital and the Mercy University Hospital. HIV Ireland says a hospital emergency department charges for the attendance itself when you come without a GP referral letter: currently €100 for EU residents and more for non-EU residents.Published by HSE· 22 Sep 2026
- What visitors pay. The HSE says all services at its public sexual health clinics are free, and HIV Ireland says STI testing is free at public STI/GUM clinics and at some community venues. Neither says whether this applies to short-term visitors, so ask when you phone. HIV Ireland puts the emergency department attendance fee at €100 for EU residents and more for non-EU residents.Community-endorsed HIV Ireland· 22 Sep 2026
