Indonesia: good to know

  • Legal & safety. Human Dignity Trust reports that same-sex sexual activity is explicitly criminalised in two Indonesian provinces, Aceh and South Sumatra, under provincial regulations. It also notes that Indonesia's revised Criminal Code, in force since 2 January 2026, criminalises sex and cohabitation outside marriage, and says these provisions could be applied inconsistently in practice.
