Where To Test

Sexual health clinics in Georgia

Tbilisi has four listings: the national AIDS centre, which offers free anonymous or confidential HIV counselling and testing and publishes prices for other tests; AHF's free checkpoint for rapid HIV, syphilis and hepatitis tests; the Equality Movement's LGBTQ+ community office with free anonymous testing and a free PrEP programme; and a private laboratory chain with published prices. No official source describes where a visitor gets PEP, so ask the national AIDS centre's counselling line.

Testing

Georgia's national AIDS centre in Tbilisi invites anyone who has had a risk factor to free anonymous or confidential HIV counselling and testing and also publishes a price list (HIV antibody test 25 lari, syphilis from 15, hepatitis B and C from 15). AHF's Checkpoint Tbilisi does free rapid HIV, syphilis and hepatitis B and C tests on weekday afternoons and says everyone is welcome. None of the free sites says whether foreign visitors qualify, so ask before you go; a private laboratory charges about 19 lari for an HIV antibody test.

Legal & safety

The UK government's travel advice says same-sex sexual activity is legal in Georgia and there are anti-discrimination laws, but that same-sex relationships are still not widely accepted, that showing affection in public may result in discrimination or harassment, and that homophobic harassment and assault take place.
