Ethiopia: good to know

  • Legal & safety. Same-sex sexual activity is criminalised in Ethiopia. The Human Dignity Trust records that article 629 of the Criminal Code 2004 covers homosexual acts between men and between women, with imprisonment of not less than one year under article 630.
  • What visitors pay. Both Addis Ababa services listed here describe their HIV and STI testing and treatment as free, but neither says whether that covers people visiting Ethiopia. Ask when you phone, and be ready to pay.
