Where To Test

Sexual health clinics in Egypt

Listings are in Cairo: a Ministry of Health counselling and testing centre near Tahrir Square, where UNICEF Egypt says HIV testing is free and no personal data are requested, and a private laboratory in Nasr City with a published STD panel and same-day results. No source says whether foreign visitors can use the government centres, none publishes prices, and none describes where PEP is given.

Testing

UNICEF Egypt says HIV testing and counselling are free at the Ministry of Health's counselling centres in every governorate, that no personal data are requested there, and that the Ministry provides HIV medicines free of charge. The Ministry's HIV hotline 08007008000 (or 02 3315 2801) tells callers where the nearest centre is and treats calls confidentially. The National AIDS Program's list of fixed units names, for Cairo, 19 Sheikh Rihan Street in Bab El Louk and Abbassia Fever Hospital. Private laboratories sell STD panels; ask the price and whether a doctor's request is needed.

Legal & safety

The UK government's travel advice says same-sex sexual activity is not explicitly criminalised in Egypt, but that the authorities have prosecuted LGBT+ people under debauchery laws, that same-sex couples showing affection in public are likely to receive negative attention, and that you may be denied entry if your gender expression or appearance does not match the sex marker in your passport.

City pages carry the local detail: which clinic, which hospital, and what it costs there.
