Sexual health clinics in China
Listings in mainland China are of two kinds: public infectious-disease hospitals, which run the city STI and HIV clinics and the 72-hour PEP service, and international private hospitals that publish pages in English. District CDC clinics do voluntary HIV counselling and testing, bookable online in Shenzhen and described there as free and confidential. Healthcare is not free in China and can be expensive, so travel insurance matters.

- PEP in this country
PEP has to start within 72 hours, and in mainland China it is the public infectious-diseases hospitals that provide it. Beijing You'an Hospital says its infection centre clinic was designated an HIV exposure-prevention clinic in 2019, covering sexual as well as occupational exposure for medical institutions across Beijing, and that the hospital works around the clock. In Chengdu, the city's public health clinical medical centre says its HIV department assesses and manages people after an HIV exposure and lists a 24-hour duty number. Phone before travelling across a city, and expect to pay.

The UK government's travel advice says healthcare is not free in China and can be very expensive, and that travellers should have insurance covering healthcare, medical evacuation and repatriation. The international private hospitals we list (United Family in Beijing, Parkway in Shanghai) publish pages in English and Japanese but not their prices, so ask what a consultation and each test will cost before agreeing to them.

China CDC's national AIDS centre and the provincial CDCs publish directories of voluntary counselling and testing (VCT) sites — usually one district CDC clinic per district, plus community health centres. Guangdong's list was updated in August 2023 and advises phoning ahead. Shenzhen goes furthest: the city says an HIV test is booked on its CDC platform or public account, which finds the nearest testing point, and calls the service free and confidential. None of the directories says what a visitor without a Chinese identity card pays or which documents are needed.

City pages carry the local detail: which clinic, which hospital, and what it costs there.
