Canada: good to know

  • What visitors pay. Ottawa Public Health says you do not need OHIP (Ontario health insurance) to visit its Sexual Health Clinic, but visits are by phone-booked appointment only, testing is limited to listed priority groups (including 2SLGBTQ+ people and people aged 29 and under), and it asks for an Ontario health card or photo ID with an Ontario address to register; call first if you have neither.
  • PEP in this country. Ottawa Public Health's Sexual Health Clinic (179 Clarence Street, 613-234-4641) lists HIV PEP and PrEP for those who qualify. It has no drop-in service: you must phone for an appointment during its booking hours.
  • PEP in this country. HIV Testing Ontario advises going to a hospital emergency room for PEP when a testing site cannot provide it, and says there are costs for PEP for people without insurance (it is free for sexual assault survivors). PEP must start within 72 hours.
