Where To Test

Sexual health clinics in Argentina

We list free community testing centres, public hospital and municipal testing and sexual health services, and private clinics and laboratories. National sources say HIV tests and PEP are free in the public system, but hospitals run by the national state now bill foreigners who are not permanent residents for non-emergency care, and the City of Buenos Aires has its own billing procedure. Emergency care cannot be refused. No source says how this applies to a short-term visitor who needs a test or PEP.

PEP in this country

The Ministry of Health says PEP and PrEP are free to everyone who needs them under Law 27.675, and that PEP must start as soon as possible and no later than 72 hours after the exposure. It does not say where to go or how this applies to short-term visitors. Fundación Huésped says PEP is free at public health centres and hospitals and is taken for 28 days; in practice that means a public hospital emergency department (guardia) as soon as you can. In Buenos Aires, Hospital Fernández's infectious diseases division says it runs a PEP programme. In Rosario and Mendoza the same route applies: a public hospital guardia.

What visitors pay

Public hospitals are no longer free for every foreigner. The national government says hospitals run by the national state now charge foreigners who are not permanent residents: you must show valid health insurance or pay before non-emergency care. Emergency care cannot be refused or delayed, and the treating professional decides what counts as an emergency. The City of Buenos Aires set its own billing procedure in March 2025 for foreigners without an Argentine ID, and also says urgent care may never be refused. Hospitals in Rosario and Mendoza are run by the city or province, not the national state, so ask before a non-urgent visit.

Testing

The national Ministry of Health says HIV tests are available in public hospitals and health centres across the country, are confidential, and need no ID or doctor's order. The City of Buenos Aires runs more than 60 free, confidential HIV and syphilis testing centres and says to phone first because days and hours vary. The Municipality of Rosario says HIV, syphilis and viral hepatitis tests are free, confidential and need no doctor's order in its public hospitals and health centres. For Mendoza we have only the national statement. The community organisations we list in Buenos Aires test everyone free of charge.
